Most Communities find it difficult to cross and access the other side of their villages due to the damages on the roads caused by the April floods in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
Soldier’s deployment has been a blessing to many Communities across the Province, where stranded publics have been assisted with minor and major road works and rehabilitation. The damaged road has a negative effect on transportation for burials, taxi business and delivery of goods within their areas, thus inspiring the community to end up seeking help from the Soldiers’ deployed to their areas.
‘Fixing the road for the Community is a big achievement for us Soldiers, for the Community to use an alternative route is very painful because it comes with added extra cost’ said Captain Siyabonga Khumalo the Troop Commander for deployed forces on the ground.
He further said ‘in most cases, the Community would approach the Engineer Squadron base in their area to request assistance with grading and clearing of the roads. Soldiers assist where we can while we are busy with other projects to complete.
As the Soldiers finished fixing the road, one Community member who stayed next to the road continuously thanked and praised the Soldiers for their good work in the Delmart 1 Community.
The Engineer Squadron is under the Command of Major Madimetja Lucas Masenya.
