There was joy and ululation amongst the community of Dududu in uMdoni Local Municipality when MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka today, 30 January 2023, officiated a sod-turning ceremony signalling the start of the construction of Main Road P77.
The R300 million contract for upgrading main road P77 linking Scottburgh under uGu and the Harry Gwala districts will be a relief to the community and will boost local economic activities. The road will be upgraded from gravel to tar.
The first 17 kilometres of the road is already surfaced and the second phase to be upgraded will be 10 kilometres.
This main road will connect the community of uMdoni Local Municipality with important amenities such as schools, clinics, public transport and other business opportunities. The ten kilometres will connect two traditional councils, which are the Zembeni and Bele traditional councils.
