Local communities in Kranskop under the Mvoti Local Municipality in Emakhabeleni will soon be able to reach neighbouring places with ease during rainy seasons.
This follows the completion of the construction of Welisizwe Bailey Bridges in the area.
The bridges are part of the ongoing rollout of the Welisizwe Rural Bridges Programme which is aimed at providing safe access to social amenities and further responding to potential disaster areas and emergency disaster situations.
The intervention is done through the construction of modular steel bridges.
The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka today, 30 March 2023 inspected the two bridges under Operation Siyahlola.
These include Nophethu Skhova which has now been completed and is ready to be handed over to the community and Emakhabeleni Dimane which is nearing completion as it is left with backfilling on both home and away banks and planting of road signs.
Two other modular steel bridges Emakhabeleni Mandlalati and Nophethu Mhlabathini are still in the early stages of construction.
The construction of these bridges is part of a partnership between the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, the Department of Defence and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.
MEC Hlomuka was accompanied by local and traditional leaders.
