On Thursday, 2024/11/14, Durban Metro Police Service Metro Trio Crimes A & B and City Integrity and Investigation Unit (CIIU)members conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Ntuzuma area.
Acting on reliable information, the team received details about suspects allegedly involved in the theft of asphalt tar from the Department of Roads and Stormwater Maintenance. The suspects were reportedly eThekwini Municipality’s Road and Stormwater Maintenance Department employees.
In collaboration with the CIIU, the team tactically monitored the suspects’ movements. After hours of surveillance, the vehicle of interest was tracked to a location in Inanda, opposite Isiphumelele Primary School.
Six individuals were arrested at the scene without authorization after committing theft at the mentioned location. All arrests were made without incident, and suspects were detained at Inanda South African Police Service.
Cellphones seized at the scene will undergo forensic analysis.
