Construction at the new solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage solution (BESS) at the Hartenbos wastewater treatment works is nearing completion. This system will operate as a microgrid, connected to the grid under normal conditions.
The battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Hartenbos wastewater treatment plant’s solar photovoltaic project was officially been placed on site this month.
The battery installation valued at approximately R25.1 million (excluding VAT).
In case of grid interruptions, the battery energy storage system (BESS) will take over, supported by the solar photo voltaic system during sunlight hours. Standby diesel generators will provide additional support if both the batteries and grid supply (or solar generation) are unavailable.
This project not only ensures a reliable and eco-friendly power supply but also promotes environmental conservation by reducing carbon emissions.
