MEC MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae participated in a ministerial visit to Free State for Vala Zonke and S’Hamba Sonke consultative projects meeting.
The Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga visited Free State Province to engage in the state of roads Infrastructure. The meeting deliberated on issues of budget, (PRMG), road repair and maintenance, pothole patching, gravelling, availability of human capital and yellow fleet.
The road network in the country is around 750 000km and both the province and national are dominated by gravel roads. The meeting also discussed possible considerations of handing over R26, R34/R33 and R74 to SANRAL to offload the road Infrastructure maintenance backlog the department is faced with.
Dignitaries in the meeting included Acting Premier Ketso Makume, MEC for Health Mathabo Leeto, HoD Masego Tshabalala, HoD Masechaba Sesing, different Mayors from municipalities, SANRAL, SALGA, Municipal managers, Technical Directors and Engineers.
The meeting agreed on numerous areas such as intensifying the Vala Zonke program, possibilities of MoUs with SANRAL, Adopt a road Project with the private sector. The Nano innovation project for gravelling will be piloted in the Free State Province.
