Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Bakwena) places great importance on road users’ safety and experience of the routes, and as a means of keeping road users informed would like to share an important update on the work they are currently busy with.
The current upgrade includes the addition of 32km of a second carriageway on the N4 between the M17 and R512 (Brits Interchange). The project costs R582 million with a 36-month construction period, that is scheduled to be completed in June 2021. Recent developments include the dualling of the N4 bridge which crosses the Crocodile River.
Bakwena’s Commercial Manager, Solomon Kganyago confirms that the dualling project is on track and is happy to inform road users of the opening of the R512 interchange ramps which were closed for a period of ten months between May 2019 to March 2020.
As part of the ongoing works related to the addition of 32km of a second carriageway, the R511 West-facing ramp will be temporarily closed AFTER the nationwide lockdown period.
Road users are advised to make use of alternative routes during the closure of the R511 westbound offramp (Ramp D) and can use the following alternatives:
- M17 (Garankuwa/Hornsnek) off-ramp before the R511 using the R513 route parallel to the N4 towards P35 to the intended destinations (Brits/Sandton) or the
- R512 (Brits) off-ramp after the R511 using the recently upgraded R512 interchange to the intended destination (Brits).
Bakwena thanks motorists for their patience while work is being carried out and advises them to adhere to all designated road signs and traffic regulations and exercise extreme caution throughout the construction process in the areas where heavy equipment and trucks will be operating.
