Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela will tomorrow, Wednesday 13 May 2020 visit one of the active construction sites to assess how the construction sector is functioning under the strict health protocols as guided by the construction and related services guidelines.
Following the announcement of activities permitted under Alert Level 4 as gazetted on 29 April, as a critical role-player in construction, the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works resumed its projects, bringing over 8000 people back into paid employment. This is a huge boost of R3.5 billion to the economy of the Western Cape.
The regulations make provision for civil engineering for public works projects, public works civil engineering and construction works, road and bridge projects, including local road repairs and critical maintenance and repairs.
Minister Madikizela will visit one of the road construction projects that is contributing 2 500 work opportunities to the overall figure.
