The refurbishment of the iconic beach huts commenced this week and is set to be completed late in November.
The City of Cape Town is excited to announce the commencement of the next phase of the Muizenberg Huts Refurbishment Project. This is a partnership which builds on the excellent work done by the Friends of the Muizenberg Huts.
Following Phase 1 of the beach huts refurbishment to Surfers Corner; the Recreation and Parks Department with the support of the Corporate Project Programme and Portfolio Management Department has commenced the implementation of Phase 2 of the beach huts refurbishment to the Muizenberg East Beach Side to the value of R5,9million.
‘This joint initiative with Friends of the Muizenberg Huts aims to preserve this proud Cape Town tourism symbol, which also forms part of the rich cultural and historical heritage of Muizenberg. Through thoughtful design, we will ensure that these iconic huts continue to be a symbol of the area’s charm and character for generations to come. We look forward to working closely with the community and stakeholders throughout this project to create a vibrant and sustainable beachfront destination for locals and visitors alike,’ said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
Phase 2 involves the refurbishment of 26 double huts and 10 single huts.
Construction work started on Monday, 18 September, and is expected to be completed by the end of November.
