A Mossel Bay project is now being recognised as one of South Africa’s leading municipal renewable energy initiatives.
Mossel Bay’s Hartenbos Wastewater Treatment Works Solar Plant helped win South Africa’s Solar EPC of the Year Award.
The award was presented to Solareff by the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) for the Hartenbos Solar PV Plant and Microgrid project, developed in partnership with Mossel Bay Municipality and
Element Consulting Engineers.
The project:
• Generates solar power from 4,536 solar panels
• Includes large-scale battery storage
• Can continue operating during power interruptions
• Reduces electricity costs and carbon emissions
• Exports excess power back into the municipal network
The project is being recognised nationally as a leading example of how municipalities can use renewable energy and smart technology to improve service delivery and energy resilience.
