As part of constant engagements with the Strategic Partners in the province, today, 31 October 2023 Hon. MEC for Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Mme Nkakareng Rakgoale led Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) spearheaded by CEO, Mr Gabriel Maluleke on a SOD Turning Ceremony for a project the Agency will be implementing with Palabora Mining Company (PMC) in Phalaborwa.
The project for Roads D4424 Lulekani and D3786 Mashishimale will cover about 40k where major rehabilitation and upgrading will be carried out.
Speaking during the ceremony, the MEC underscored that it is through such important collaborations that people will see projects of impact in their communities.
The MEC further urged members of the community to take good care of their infrastructure as any destruction would see them being considered last for implementation.
“You ought to take good care of your infrastructure. It cannot be that when people want to put forth their concerns they do so by burning tyres on the road. I can assure you that if you do that, come rain, potholes will form in the area.”
RAL has sought strategic partnerships as an approach to augment the province’s road infrastructure delivery by soliciting more funds to further develop the provincial road network.
The stakeholders in attendance commended the efforts of the MEC and applauded her for being action-oriented. They encouraged RAL to continue to construct quality road infrastructure in the province which has a positive socio-economic impact on communities.
“The partnership between RAL and PMC comes at a perfect time when the country is in high spirits after the recent tremendous victory because it gives us another important milestone to celebrate. This collaboration is appreciated because it will benefit a large part of the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality communities” expressed the Traditional Authority representative in support of the initiative.
Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji stated that this road infrastructure will facilitate the free flow of goods and services. “This road will not only benefit businesses to transport their produce and access markets but will also benefit the community as a whole”, she explained.
This public/private partnership project between Roads Agency Limpopo and Palabora Mining Company is jointly funded to the tune of R205 million to benefit people within the municipal jurisdiction of Ba-Phalaborwa.
