Council recently approved the City of Cape Town’s Traffic Calming Policy, a guideline to help assess and manage applications for traffic calming measures across the city.
The policy is aligned with the Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan (CITP) and the Road Safety Strategy and aims to reduce road deaths and injuries by creating safer streets for everyone.
Key objectives of the policy include establishing a sustainable programme that:
- Protects the most vulnerable road users, especially where they are most at risk
- Recognises roadways as public assets meant for all users
- Addresses urgent road safety issues on residential streets as they arise
Thank you to all residents who contributed to the draft during the public participation process held in August and September 2025.
