The South African Army Engineer Formation has arrived in the province of KwaZulu-Natal ready to serve. They hit the ground running without any delay by conducting search and rescue looking for the mortal remains of victims of the exceptionally heavy rainfall.
The Engineer capability component arrived with their Prime Mission Equipment (PME). These military assets will be used to minimise the human cost of a natural disaster. The recorded incidence of this natural disaster is (at least 435 people were killed, many missing and left several thousand homeless).
These Engineers will focus mainly on water purification in order to provide clean and consumable water to the local community because water supply pipes were swept away. The Slovakian proverb “Pure water is the world’s first and foremost medicine.”
