Bakwena is committed to ensuring the N1N4 route conforms to international standards. Bakwena carries out the required regular rehabilitations to the N1N4 route and ensures that routine / preventative road maintenance is necessary to keep the roads for which we are responsible in a condition that ensures the safe passage of road users, on a continuous basis. Well-maintained roads have economic and social benefits for individual road users and the country as a whole.
As such please find below details of Bakwena’s current and future maintenance projects:-
Rehabilitation of N4 between Kameeldrift and Ga-Rankuwa interchanges

End Date: July 2023
Rehabilitation of N1 between Pienaarsriver & Bela Bela
12-month project
Start Date: August 2022
End Date: July 2023
During the rehabilitation process, there will be multiple lane closures of approximately 5km for 12 weeks at a time which will result in the traffic capacity being severely impacted. Delays can be expected particularly during peak, month-end weekends and holiday periods along these sections. We would like to assure our road users that we are continuously working to keep these delays to a minimum and to return the road to full capacity as soon as possible. We encourage road users to plan their journeys accordingly to accommodate these delays.
Your safety remains always our top priority. In order to ensure this, we request that you partner with us and adhere to the traffic accommodation road signs, obey the speed restrictions that have been implemented and exercise caution and patience. At the same time, we undertake these critical rehabilitation works which will not only improve the overall safety of the road surface but will also enhance your driving experience along the N1N4 route.

We thank you for your continued support and understanding whilst we undertake these critical rehabilitation works.
