Two Mokopane businessmen, aged 32 and 39, have been arrested for operating an unlawful gas cylinder plant in Mokopane on Friday, 16 September 2022.
The suspects were arrested during a multi-disciplinary sting operation comprising of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Mokopane Bomb Disposal, Local Criminal Record Centre, Department of Home Affairs, Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Department of Environmental Affairs, Mogalakwena Fire and Rescue and Royal Square (Brand representatives).
At the beginning of this year, information was received about a plant in Mokopane that was refilling and selling gas cylinders without being authorized. Since then, the plant has been on police radar.
During the operation, the team seized a large number of gas cylinders bearing different brands with an estimated value of R350 000-00.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 September 2022 to face charges relating to fraud, theft, and contravention of the General Law Amendment Act and Pressure Equipment Regulations.
