The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka today, 21 February 2023, returned to Nkandla to monitor progress on infrastructural projects.
The return to Nkandla is part of MEC Hlomuka’s follow-up visits after violent protests in Nkandla last month led to a shutdown of several services and the Nkandla central business district.
The Department of Transport has moved with speed to rehabilitate and conduct pothole patching on various roads as part of the commitment made by the Department to the community of Nkandla.
MEC Hlomuka, accompanied by the Mayor of Nkandla Mbhekiseni Biyela, visited P90, where contractors are already on site. The Department’s internal team under the programme Operation Siyazenzela is also on-site conducting betterment and re-gravelling following ongoing torrential rains.
