The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government today, 24 July 2023, unveiled a contractor that will continue to erect new jersey barriers along the South African and Mozambique border.
The contractor was unveiled as part of the Premier’s Imbizo on cross-border crime, held in Umhlabuyalingana Local Municipality today.
The Imbizo was attended by the National Minister of Police Bheki Cele, KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube and MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka.
The project to erect the high concrete barricade was initiated following high levels of cross-border crime, including theft of vehicles from South Africa to Mozambique.
The project initially commenced in 2020 it was, however, terminated as the contractor was found to be in breach of his contract.
A new contractor has now been appointed to complete phase 1.
