The South African National Defence Force, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, and the Department of Transport, is currently spearheading a crucial initiative to address the infrastructure needs of communities susceptible to floods in the KwaZulu-Natal province. Recognising the vulnerability of areas such as Ndwedwe, uLundi, and eMalangeni, these government entities are working together to implement strategic solutions that focus on the construction of bridges, enhancing connectivity, and ensuring the safety and resilience of these communities in the face of recurring floods during rainy seasons.
In this joint effort, the SA National Defence Force brought 82 logistical and engineering experts from 1 Construction Regiment to the forefront, working in tandem with the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure and the Department of Transport. By prioritizing the construction of bridges in flood-prone regions, this collaborative endeavour aims to fortify the local infrastructure, facilitating improved access and mobility for residents and minimizing the impact of natural disasters on these communities.
