Replacing aged water and sanitation infrastructure remains a top priority for the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate. During March 2024, the directorate replaced over 10 364m of sewer pipes and 3 889m of water pipes across Cape Town.
There is a buzz of activity in the city, with several sewer and water pipe replacement projects currently underway. With the ambitious aim to replace 50,000 m of water pipes for the 2023/2024 financial year, the City is well on its way to reaching its target, having already replaced 40 315m – that is over 80% by the end of March. This project ensures that residents will continue to receive reliable water supply and sewage conveyance services via the different reticulation systems.
March was a busy month for the City’s teams, where 3 889m water pipes were replaced in various projects in Goodwood, Fresnaye, Newlands, Bellville, Gordon’s Bay, Ottery, Ocean View, Southfield, Constantia, Hout Bay and Fish Hoek, and 10 311m sewer pipes were replaced in projects in Parow North, Maitland, Brackenfell, Scottsville Kraaifontein, Strand, Eerste River, Mission Grounds (Sir Lowry’s Pass), Kuils River, Constantia, Bergvliet and Tokai, Southfield, Lotus River and Muizenberg.
