The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to inform road users and the public of upcoming rehabilitation works as part of the upgrade of the N3, Section 2, between Hammarsdale Interchange (Km 8.825) and Uitkomst (Km 15.5) in KwaZulu-Natal.
As part of SANRAL’s commitment to maintaining safe, efficient travel, improvement works will also be undertaken on the alternative routes, namely the R103 and MR385. These routes will undergo rehabilitation to enhance durability and safety for all motorists.
To safely facilitate these works between Cato Ridge & Inchanga, 24-hour Stop/Go operations will be implemented as follows:
- MR385: Between Km 0.0 and Km 4.0
- R103: Between Km 8.3 and Km 14.5
- A maximum of two (2) closures will be permitted at a time, each limited to 2km in length, with a minimum spacing of 2km between closures.
- Depending on terrain and safety conditions, closure lengths may vary but will not exceed 4km.
- Motorists can expect an average waiting time of approximately 30 minutes per Stop/Go point.
Construction Period
- Start Date: 20 October 2025 at 09:00
- Completion Date: 30 March 2026
December Holiday Adjustment: All Stop/Go operations will be removed on the 10th of December 2025 and reinstated on the 6th January 2026 to ease holiday traffic flow.
“The Contractor’s Traffic Accommodation Team, supported by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), will oversee traffic management activities throughout the duration of the project,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s KZN Provincial Specialist Geometrics Engineer.
During construction, the Contractors will ensure continuous and safe access for residents, businesses, and all road users within the affected sections. Motorists are advised that the planned schedule may be adjusted due to weather or unforeseen conditions. Should this occur, an updated notice will be issued.
SANRAL urges motorists to remain patient, exercise caution, and adhere to all temporary signage and reduce speed limits in the construction zones.
