The official breach of the estuary mouth is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, 19 September 2025. Timing depends on water flow, high tide, and estuary levels.
The Wolwedans Dam sluices will be opened from 05:00 to 12:00. During this time, NO ACCESS is allowed to the hiking trail.
The Department of Water & Sanitation and Mossel Bay Municipality will be monitoring water levels throughout the day. Rising estuary levels are expected – please do not panic.
Public safety reminders
- Suiderkruis parking area and surrounding beach remain closed
- No access to adjacent beaches via the breaching site
- Do not block the parking entrance – heavy machinery will be removed with lowbed trucks
- Stay away from the estuary mouth and channel banks – they may collapse as water flows out
- No fishing or activity is allowed in or around the mouth during this time
The site will reopen once all machinery has been safely removed.
