The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has announced a temporary road closure on the N11 Section 2 – Lyell Street (northbound only), from Queen Street intersection to Alfred Street intersection.
Closure Period:
From Tuesday, 4 November 2025, at 08:00
To Saturday, 6 December 2025, at 14:00
This closure is necessary to safely accommodate construction work taking place as part of the upgrade of the N11 Section 2 from Ladysmith South (km 0.00) to Elandslaagte (km 28.00).
Alternative Route (for affected northbound traffic):
From Colenso/R103: Turn left at the Lyell and Murchison intersection
Continue straight to Alfred Street
Turn right at Alfred Street
Turn left back onto N11/Lyell Street
Traffic from Town/Newcastle (southbound) remains unaffected and may continue as normal along Lyell Street.
Motorists are urged to:
Plan ahead and allow for extra travel time
Follow all detour signage and speed restrictions
Note that trucks and heavy vehicles should use alternative routes to avoid congestion
Public transport operators should inform drivers of the closure and detours
