Search and rescue operations for victims trapped beneath tonnes of debris following the collapse of a four-storey temple in Redcliffe, KwaZulu-Natal, resumed at approximately 05:00 this morning (Saturday).
Rescue technicians are currently (07:49) working to access individuals believed to still be trapped beneath large concrete slabs. The structure collapsed during a concrete ready-mix pouring operation yesterday (Friday).
Five people who were initially trapped were successfully rescued hours after the collapse, while a further eight construction workers were treated for mild to moderate injuries.
The South African Police Service, Fire and Rescue Services, specialised rescue technicians from multiple organisations, paramedics, and members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) remain on standby at the scene as coordinated rescue efforts continue.
