Repair works on slip failures along the P33/4 road between Sabie and Hazyview are set to commence in the coming week. With the main road works completed and construction teams under mobilisation, emergency repairs will now be undertaken to address the 7 slip failures identified on this route.
The repair work will involve backfilling the affected road embankments to restore the original contours, ensuring the road is structurally stable and safe for use by motorists and tourists.
The P33/4 road forms a critical section of the Panorama Route, a renowned scenic drive that attracts visitors from around the world to experience Mpumalanga’s breathtaking landscapes. This route is a key tourism corridor, providing access to popular destinations such as God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, and numerous waterfalls.
As part of the Tourism Routes Preservation Initiatives, these repairs will help maintain safe and reliable access to these iconic attractions, ensuring that both local communities and visitors can continue to enjoy this vital component of the province’s natural heritage.
