A building contractor and his team were dismissed from a construction site due to substandard work and have subsequently threatened to kill the owner and his family.
The homeowner, a resident of Ethekweni – KwaZulu-Natal, sought assistance from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after the team was removed for daily tardiness and failing to meet construction standards. The contractor, based in Ilembe – KwaZulu-Natal, demanded full payment of R90,000. In response, the homeowner offered R30,000, citing that less than 30 per cent of the work was completed.
The situation escalated when the offer was rejected, and the homeowner received death threats. He was informed via telephone that he would be shot, and his teenage daughter would be kidnapped from school and raped.
Subsequent phone calls from unknown men, claiming to be foreign nationals, demanded the R90 000, threatening to kill the entire family. The complainant reported recording the calls but had not provided the recording by Sunday 13:00 (15/03/2026).
An application for a Protection Order is underway.
