As part of the commitment made by the Hon. MEC for Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Mme Nkakareng Rakgoale in her 2023/24 Budget Vote to purchase heavy machinery, today the MEC joined by the Acting HoD for LDPWRI, Mr Daddy Phukuntsi, RAL’s Executive Manager: Engineering, Mr Moshweu Mokgala, Senior Managers and district representatives unveiled plant equipment and light delivery vehicles aimed at accelerating service delivery in the province. The yellow fleet consists of 25 graders, one excavator and 17 light delivery vehicles that will replace the aged plant equipment in 36 cost centres of the department across Limpopo’s five districts.
MEC Rakgole in her address stated that this fleet is part of the important tools for infrastructure development. “These are our important tools in the construction and maintenance of our road network” MEC Rakgoale stated.
MEC Rakgoale further highlighted the significance of the unveiling taking place during the October Transport Month, which is aimed at promoting the utilisation of public transportation.
“This occasion happens during the October Transport Month, which is a key annual programme aimed at promoting the use of integrated public transport systems in the country. The Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Limpopo then becomes central in the transport sector and in this regard, we are responsible for the provision and maintenance of the province’s road network which enables transport activities to flow smoothly.”
MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale stated that the Department is determined to ensure that there is improved service delivery, particularly in the maintenance of road infrastructure.
“This is about showcasing service delivery. Service to who – to our people and the economy of our province. These vehicles are important instruments in the hands of government to improve the lives of our people.”
